Home Curriculum of Education for Peace The EFP Curriculum is not a separate subject of study, but rather a framework within which all subjects are explored. At the heart of the EFP Program is a set of core themes that transcend and unify the various subjects in the standard public school curriculum. While addressing themes such as inter-ethnic harmony, human rights and democratic decision-making processes, the program gives particular attention to issues of worldview, human nature, individual and collective development and the psychosocial, moral, ethical and spiritual causes of violence and war. This combined approach lays the critical foundation for the creation of both a culture of peace and a culture of healing. Training seminars equip teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to integrate the “principles of peace” into their lesson plans and activities with students throughout the year. Following training seminars and workshops, teachers, students and other members of the school community actively engage in applying the principles of peace to every subject of study in every classroom, every day of the week, as well as to activities outside the classroom. The objective of the curriculum is to engage students and teachers in the daily study, contemplation and practice of peace. Through this process, participating teachers from each community become partners with EFP specialists, researchers, curriculum designers and e-Learning experts in an ongoing process of curriculum development, application and evaluation. Manuals for teachers, students and parents are currently in development. An online curriculum of Education for Peace (see EFP-World) which will be implemented in selected schools during the 2004-2005 school year, is also being produced.
