Home Office of the High Representative Press Statement FIRST NATIONAL PEACE EVENT 24 FEBRUARY BANJA LUKA SCHOOLS TO HOST GUESTS FROM TRAVNIK AND SARAJEVO The Education for Peace (EFP) Project—administered by Landegg Academy in Switzerland, and funded by the Government of Luxemburg—aims to contribute to the creation of a culture of peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina by equipping teachers, students, and parents to become peacemakers. Six schools, in both the Republic of Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, are participating in this first year of the EFP Project:
The first National Peace Event of the EFP Project will be held on 24
February 2001. This event, the culmination of a month of activities held
in each region, will be an artistic celebration of peace. Selected students
from all six schools will present their musical, dramatic, and visual
creations before an audience of their parents and teachers, high-ranking
public officials, members of the international community, and the Director
of the EFP Project. The Office of the High Representative has provided substantial political support to the development of the Education for Peace project from its inception. This pilot phase is financed by a generous grant from the government of Luxembourg, and it is hoped that this valuable project can be expanded to include many other elementary and secondary schools in all parts of BiH after the completion of its pilot phase. Guests at Friday’s press conference will include Dr. H. B. Danesh, Rector of Landegg Academy and Director of the Education for Peace Project; representatives of the Office of the Mayor of Banja Luka and of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Srpska; directors and teachers from the two participating schools in Banja Luka; and Project representatives from all three cities. The press is also welcome to attend the National Peace Event on Saturday, 24 February 2001, at 2:00 pm in Banski Dvor, and to interview EFP Project participants after the performances.
