Home UN Special Session on Children 8-10 May 2002 GOVERNMENT OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA PROMOTES EFP PROGRAM AT THE UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN NEW YORK The Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a statement on Landegg’s Education for Peace program to all 400 heads of state and heads of delegations to the United Nations Special Session on Children, held in New York on 8-10 May 2002. Recommending the EFP program “to all the nations for consideration, as a model of society oriented towards peace, cooperation and development,” the universal endorsement of EFP by the Bosnian (BiH) Government represents a significant achievement of the university’s efforts to promote peace education worldwide. The Government’s statement at the UN comes after only two years’ implementation of the Education for Peace program in Bosniak, Croat, and Serb communities of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through the training and activation of nearly 16,000 teachers, students, school staff, and parents in the principles and practices of peace, the EFP program has won not only the enthusiastic commitment of the local communities but also the attention, support, and participation of Mayors, the Ministries of Education of Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH, and the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
